Where Can I Place And Install A Bioethanol Fireplace?

Where Can I Place And Install A Bioethanol Fireplace?

Below you will find some guidance on finding the correct placement for a bioethanol fireplace. Please note that the information in this guide is only general, and actual placement and installation can vary depending on the brand and model of bioethanol fireplace.

Always check the included manual and installation instructions for your specific model.

Placement and Safety Distances

When choosing a location for your bioethanol fireplace, you must adhere to the recommended safety distances to flammable materials around the fireplace. The recommended safety distance may vary depending on model and design, but as a general rule of thumb, you can assume the following:

  • A — Sides with complete shielding of the flames: Min. 10 cm
  • B — Above the bioethanol burner: Min. 100 cm
  • C — Distance to combustible materials: Min. 100 cm
  • D — Fully enclosed backs: Min. 5 cm

Many bioethanol fireplaces in classic mantel style design can be placed even closer to the wall. However, always check the manual for your specific bioethanol fireplace.

Recommended Room Size

When a bioethanol fireplace is burning, carbon dioxide (CO2) is emitted. In large quantities, CO2 can be harmful, and you should therefore comply with the recommendations for minimum room size.

The amount of CO2 that a bio fireplace emits depends on its consumption of bioethanol. If the consumption per hour is not specified in the product description, it can be calculated using the burn time and fuel capacity with the following formula:

Capacity ÷ Burning time = Consumption per hour

To find the recommended room size for your bioethanol fireplace, use the chart below and plot the fireplace's consumption per hour. Please note that the room size is displayed in cubic metres (m³) and not square metres (m²). You must therefore remember to include your ceiling height when calculating your room size.

Bioethanol fireplace room size chart

  • Green: OK — the fireplace can be used freely in this room size
  • Yellow: OK, but not recommended for continuous use without ventilating or opening doors to adjoining rooms to replace the air
  • Red: Not recommended

If you are in the yellow area on the chart, it does not necessarily mean that you cannot use the bioethanol fireplace. However, it is not recommended that you use the fireplace for extended periods without ventilating or opening doors to adjoining rooms in order to replace the air in the room.
