This way, the surface will rust and develop the desired look. It is important to emphasise that the rust only occurs on the surface, meaning the outdoor fireplaces will not rust through the entire steel structure.

In addition, the fireplaces are enclosed, preventing sparks from escaping and disturbing you while you enjoy the outdoor warmth. The history of Corten steel

The word “Corten” can be divided into two parts, where COR stands for “corrosion resistance” – meaning protection against penetrating rust – and TEN stands for “tensile strength,” which can best be described as durability or toughness.

Originally, Corten steel was developed in the United States by the company US Steel with the aim of creating a weather-resistant steel product. The steel itself is made from a combination of materials such as steel alloyed with copper, silicon, nickel, and chromium. The distinctive feature of Corten steel is its brown-orange rust colour and long lifespan.

By adding other metals to the steel, a stable layer of rust forms on the surface, which protects the deeper layers of material from oxygen exposure. In contrast to other types of metal, the rust that develops on Corten steel is not the result of wear and tear, but instead acts as a protective barrier against corrosive rust.

How to maintain your RB73 wood-burning stove

All outdoor wood-burning stoves from the RB73 brand are made of 3 mm thick Corten steel. However, all mounting materials are made of stainless steel. This ensures that the product has a long lifespan. In addition, the product requires no additional finishing or treatment. Corten steel is specifically designed for outdoor use.

We recommend the following when maintaining your outdoor RB73 wood-burning stove:

  1. If your stove has not been used for a while, remove the ash so that the stove does not become damp and difficult to light.
  2. Make sure to keep the glass clean so that dirt does not burn on over time, as it can be difficult to remove.
